Identify any chord from its notes

Hear a chord but don't know its name? The Reverse Chord Finder lets you click the notes you hear on a virtual piano keyboard and instantly identifies the chord.

Supports all common chord types including triads, 7th chords, suspended chords, and inversions. Just click the notes and the tool does the rest.

Features

How chord identification works

Click notes

Click any notes on the virtual keyboard. You can also use your computer keyboard's A-L keys.

Instant detection

The tool analyzes pitch classes against all known chord formulas and shows the best match.

Inversion support

Detects inversions and shows them as slash chords (e.g., C/E for first inversion C major).

Interval display

See the intervals between all sounding notes to understand the chord's structure.

Common questions

Some note combinations can match multiple chords. The tool shows the most likely match based on the number of notes and standard chord formulas. Try adding or removing a note to narrow it down.

Yes — use the mode toggle at the top of the tool to switch between Find Notes (forward) and Identify Chord (reverse) modes. Both modes share the same keyboard and controls.
